| MEFM
Australia, situated on Australia's east coast in the picturesque foothills of the
Great Dividing Range,
is a family owned and operated business, with all
kites sewn and assembled by Warren McIntosh, Australian National Sport
Kite Champion. |
| “I
started flying Sport Kites around 1989 and soon after entered my first
competition. Flying at the time, Australia’s best Sport Kites, made by
Bob Dawson of Leading Edge Kites as well as the world renowned North Shore
Radicals, among others. Over
the next few years I was never
out of the top placings but that 1st. place was eluding me. |
| In late
1993 I was introduced to the MEFM. The
innovative features, materials and construction of this kite just blew me
away. The love affair began. Early in 1994 I entered my first competition
flying the MEFM, the Australian Nationals, and was awarded the Gold in
both Masters Precision and Freestyle and a Bronze for ballet. |
| This
was to be a turning point in my life as it was here I was introduced to
the MEFM designer, Ray Bordelon. I
had really only just begun to understand the scope of his genius, and I
guess he became aware of my love and commitment to this amazing kite. Ray
was making MEFMs for the US and European market. As the demand in
Australia
was dramatically increasing we discussed manufacturing
in Australia
for the Australian and South East Asian markets. After
much communication with Ray over the next months about the ‘special and
secret ‘ techniques of making this kite, and the acquisition of all the
exact same materials as used in the US model, by August 1994 MEFM
Australia was born. |
| The
rest, as they say, is history. By
the late 90’s Ray had applied his genius to designing other things and
no longer had the time to make the MEFM, leaving me as the sole
manufacturer. |
| Since
1994 the MEFM has dominated competition in Australia
and has remained virtually undefeated at all State and
National competition since, as well as being the first choice of the
recreational flyer who demands pure excellence in their kite. |
| With
the innovative design and construction techniques of the original MEFM so
far ahead of its time there has been no need to modify this classic over
the years. |
| With
its incredible versatility of settings and its infinitely
tuneable bridle all styles of flying are
possible, in a phenomenal wind range. |
| From
the original, several other models have been developed, mainly for the
serious competitor. The Microlite, for extremely low wind conditions, the
Missile for bigger winds and the Meteor, developed for the ‘trick
flyer’ and the competitor who wants the ultimate ‘trick’ kite that
will also fly with the same rock solid precision as the original. |
|
